A 43-year-old woman was yesterday morning stabbed several times by her former partner and is now in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Her alleged assailant, Godfrey Lammy, has since been arrested after he was found at Sister’s Village on the West Bank Demerara.
According to eyewitnesses, at about 6 am, Denise Hope of Tucville was walking in the vicinity of Charlotte Street when she was approached by her ex-boyfriend. “She was walking going to this cream building next to this Chinese store on Charlotte Street and he was in the car waiting… When he see she, he come out and throw he hands around she, like he begging she to take him back,” a witness, who asked not to be identified, said.
“When she refused, he take out the knife and start stab she in she chest, neck and back and she run into the Brazilian church nearby for help, and they hold she and dash she back outside and leff she on the road. Is she friends come and rush she to the hospital,” the source added.
Stabroek News was told that two months ago a restraining order was filed against the man but he would still disturb Hope. “He still used to trouble her and she would always refuse him, up to last week, he tell she that if he can’t get she no one else can,” the source said.
