A Lethem child died yesterday afternoon when he fell off the back of a pickup truck on his way to a neighbouring village.
Dead is 8 year old Jet-Lee Brown, son of Lethem policeman, Jesse Brown.
Lethem police would only confirm the lad’s death explaining that a release on the details will be sent to the media via the Police Public Relations Department.
A friend of the Brown family told Stabroek News that the vehicle was on its way to Manari, a village about seven miles from Lethem, around 6.30 pm, when the child fell out. He said that the child was sitting at the back with “a few other people” and given the treacherous and bumpy terrain was told to sit flat in the back by an adult. However the boy sat at the edge of the tray and fell off when the vehicle hit a bump.
He was rushed to the Lethem Hospital by the driver of the vehicle but was pronounced dead on arrival. investigations are ongoing.
