Grove Hi-Tech defeated Santos 4-2 from kicks from the penalty mark following a tied 2-2 score line at the end of normal time when action in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Premier League continued at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda on Sunday.
Jermain Fraser opened the scoring in the seventh minute for the Georgetown side,patting his right footed strike into the net from inside the six yard box after receiving a flat right sided cross.
The East Bank of Demerara unit would level proceedings in the 36th minute as captain Domini Garnett headed his effort from just outside the right upright over the Santos goalkeeper after latching onto a rebounded strike.
Santos would regain the lead in the 55th minute as Fraser completed his double with a sublime header. Lurking within the left side of the area following a foul on the right wing, Fraser would rise above his marker to head home a Ron Ramsay cross into the right hand corner.
Down a goal, Grove Hi-Tech would suffer a further setback in the 60th minute as centre half Kevin Alleyne was sent off after picking up his second caution.
Alleyne’s dismissal only seemed to galvanize the Grove side as Domini Garnett levelled the scores once again in the 76th minute with a sublime right footed free kick from just outside the centre of the box into the left hand corner. A comedy of errors inside the six yard box in the 86th minute would deny Grove Hi-Tech the victory in normal time as three consecutive attempts by three different players were miss-kicked in their hurried efforts to score, with final strike coming off the right post.
Over at the Den Amstel ground, Alpha United edged Den Amstel Porknockers 1-0 through a Gregory Richardson 18th minute strike. In the opening fixture, Young Achievers squeaked past Linden side Winners Connections 3-2. Owen Francis and Keon Fugenay were on target for the winners in the 38th and 45th minutes respectively while a Devon Terrence own goal in the eighth minute opened the winning account.
Scoring for the losing side were Kevon McPherson and Lloyd Prince in the 57th and 85th minutes correspondingly.
Blairmont Community Centre Rosignol United defeated Linden unit Silver Shattas 4-3 in a match rescheduled from the BCC ground to the No.5 Community Centre ground.
Delroy Ferdinand, Delroy Fraser, Christopher Clarkson and Winston Benjamin were all on target for the winners’ in the 27th, 37th, 43rd and 59th minutes respectively.
Scoring for the losers were Corwin David, Jamaine Samuels and Robin Bacchus in the 30th, 41st and 70th minutes correspondingly.
In a post-match comment, executives of BCC Rosignol United stated that no access was given to the club to use the Blairmont venue even though the club is a fully paid member of the centre.
The executives further stated that they find the action alarming and very unprofessional while expressing thanks to the Monedderlust FC for accommodating them at the No.5 Community Centre ground.
In the earlier fixture, Milerock FC overcame New Amsterdam United 2-1 through a Clarence Huggins double in the 60th and 86th minutes. On target in a losing cause in the 32nd minute was Adrian Adams.
