Godfrey Lammy, 62, was yesterday arraigned on an attempted murder charge, days after he allegedly slashed the throat of his former partner.
The charge read at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court stated that on October 26, at Wellington Street, Lammy, of Lot 5 Laing Avenue, attempted to murder Denise Hope.
He was not required to plead to the capital charge, when it was read by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who refused him bail and remanded him to prison.
Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that on October 26, Hope was conducting business at Wellington Street, when Lammy held on to her neck from behind. He added that Lammy then stabbed Hope with a knife to her neck and back. Hope was subsequently taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she is still an admitted patient undergoing treatment for her injuries.
Hope had also previously taken out a restraining order against Lammy, Mangru said.
Mangru said that the matter was reported and Lammy was later arrested and charged.
Based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence, bail was objected to.
Lammy was remanded to prison until November 14.
