A man was yesterday remanded to prison after police allegedly found him with shotgun cartridges.
Anthony Fernandez, 27, of Grand Sand Road, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, was charged with being in possession of three live rounds of 12 gauge ammunition on October 29 at Moblissa, while not being the holder of a firearm licence.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Bharat Mangru said that Fernandez was at Moblissa when he was confronted by police officers, who conducted a search that led to the discovery of the ammunition inside of Fernandez’s hammock.
When given a chance to speak, Fernandez said, “Your honour, I do not know anything about the ammunition. It does not belong to me.”
After this, Mangru informed the court the he will be objecting to bail because he felt that no special reasons were provided by the defendant.
As a result, Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry refused bail and the case was transferred to the Christiansburg Magistrate’s Court for November 5.
