A Stewartville woman was yesterday sentenced to a three-year jail sentence for drug trafficking, after she was snared with cocaine and marijuana in a police sting operation.
Robina Rogers, 36, of Stewartville Railway, West Coast Demerara, was held after she sold cocaine to an undercover police officer.
Rogers pleaded guilty to four counts of drug trafficking when she appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The charges read by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry stated that at Stewartville, Rogers sold 2.8 grammes of cannabis to Police Corporal Mohammed Edoo on October 30.
Police said too that on the same day, she also sold to Edoo, one gramme of cocaine. The other two charges stated that she had in her possession 6.2 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and one gramme of cannabis.
Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that acting on information, Corporal Edoo went to Rogers’ home and, acting as a decoy, he asked to purchase the cocaine.
He added that after Edoo purchased the drug from Rogers, additional plain clothes police officers ventured into Rogers’ home and identified themselves. A search was subsequently conducted and the money paid to her by Edoo was recovered, while the narcotics mentioned in the charge were also discovered.
She was subsequently informed of the offence and arrested.
Although Rogers was sentenced to three years imprisonment for each offence, the sentences are to be served concurrently. In addition, she was fined $30,000 for each charge, amounting to a total of $120,000.
