USAID, in collaboration with the University of Guyana, on October 24th launched the “University of Guyana Interactive Speakers Series.”
A release from the United States Embassy yesterday said that the guest speaker at the inaugural event was former Speaker of the National Assembly, Ralph Ramkarran. The release said that the event provided the opportunity for Ramkarran, a senior counsel and commentator, to share his insights on Guyana’s political developments and to mull over historical and current affairs with students. The release said that over 100 students, mainly political science and international relations students engaged with Ramkarran.
The release said that students welcomed the initiative. Through the Interactive Speaker Series partnership, the release said that USAID and UG will host an array of speakers reflecting the diversity of political, economic, and social perspectives in Guyana. It said that students from various disciplines at the University will also be able to participate in special sessions of the Interactive Speakers Series to meet with guest speakers from Guyana, the Caribbean Region, and North America.
The International Republican Institute is implementing this programme for USAID. The Speaker Series is part of USAID’s efforts to encourage greater involvement and understanding among Guyana’s youth in the country’s political and civic processes, the release added.
