Upper East Coast Tigers, East Coast Bulls and Upper East Bank Colts, on Friday registered second round wins in the 2013 Demerara Cricket Board (DCB)/Raj Singh Insurance Brokers and Trophy Stall Over-40 20 overs-a-side tournament across grounds in Guyana.
After winning the toss, West Demerara elected to field, giving the East Coast Tigers the opportunity to score 128 for 6 in 20 overs. Man-of—the match Ramoo Malone stroked four boundaries in his knock of 34.
He supported by Jagdesh Persaud, who struck a four and the only two sixes in his score of 30 while Khemraj Chanderpaul, father of West Indies batting great Shivnarine Chanderpaul, rolled back the years striking two fours in his innings of 13. Asgar Ali with 2 for 10 and S. Seetaram 1 for 18 were the wicket takers.
In reply the West Demerara team was restricted to a painstaking 66 for 9. Linden Mcoy (12), Orville Blacks (12) and former national batsman Ravindranauth Seeram with nine runs were the top scorers. Malone returned to claim one wicket for three runs and Jacob Persaud 2 for 6.
Over at the Lusignan Community Center ground, East Coast Bulls were on a charge thanks to a well-crafted half-century from Vishwinauth Gobin, along with a discipline bowling from Carlos Reid, who claimed 4 for 15, as they thumped Georgetown Bears by 69 runs. Gobin slammed 72 to lead his side to 191 all out in 19.4 overs while Baldeo Persaud added 42.
In reply, the Bears slid to 122 for 7 in their 20 overs. Vijay Gangaram top scored with 48 while Reid returned with the bat to carve 40 not out. Chathram Gagadin snared 3 for 14.
Playing at the Demerara Cricket Club ground (DCC), after tallying 83 for 6 in their 12 overs-a-side contest, the Colts managed to secure a seven-run victory over the Georgetown Buffaloes.
Sudesh Latchman (26), who was adjudged man-of-the-match and Otis George (23) were the top scorers while Georgetown Buffaloes’ Linden Lyght grabbed an impressive 4 for 7 from two overs. Buffaloes kept the game heated as they challenged the target to the end, but were eventually bowled out for 76 in the 12th over with Roy Mahadeo accounting for two wickets.
The next round is scheduled to bowl off on Wednesday with fixtures and venues to be confirmed soon.
