Days after allegedly spitting on a man and threatening to kill him, a plantain chip vendor was hit with assault and threatening language charges.
Anil Ali pleaded not guilty to the charges against him when it was read at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where he was placed on $90,000 bail.
It was alleged that on October 30, at the Route 44 minibus park, Ali, 32, of Success, East Coast Demerara, unlawfully assaulted Wayne Simon. It was also alleged that he used threatening language to Simon on the same day.
Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt, who did not object to bail, stated that there was an argument between Ali and Simon, which prompted Ali to spit in Simon’s face before saying that he would murder him.
Attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat, who appeared for Ali, asked for reasonable bail to be granted to his client. He informed the court that Ali is not a flight risk and has no antecedents.
Magistrate Judy Latchman granted Ali’s release on $60,000 bail for threatening language and $30,000 for the common assault charge.
The matter will return to court on November 15, when it will be heard at Court 10.
