More than 300 scouts assembled at the Scout Association of Guyana’s Woolford Avenue headquarters over the weekend to honour 19 long-serving members at a series of activities held on Sunday in honour of the group’s 104th anniversary.
According to a press release from the Scout Association of Guyana, Chief Scout Ramsay Ali told the gathering at the annual anniversary camp, rally and games that their commitment has enabled the programme to expand across the country. He also reminded them that scouting was not only about learning skills and outdoor survival techniques, but adapting a different mind-set and way of life.
The release said more than 19 scouts were recognised for their service and contribution to scouting in Guyana and, in the case of the association’s Chief Commissioner Zaida Joaquin, the world. Joaquin recently became a committee member on an Inter-American Scout Committee – the World Scout Bureau. Other awards were given awards for good service, meritorious service, long service and meritorious action.
Over the weekend, the scouts also participated in a rally through city streets and on Saturday, challenged each other in a number of games. The association also held its annual ‘BBQ and Lime,’ where the public was invited to participate.
