Slingerz FC clinched their inaugural West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) Stag Beer Senior League, crushing Seawall FC 3-0 in their final fixture at the Den Amstel Community Ground on Monday.
The Vergenoegen side which finished the league campaign unbeaten from 11 games opened the scoring in the seventh minute through a Vurlon Mills volleyed effort inside the center of the 18-yard box after collecting a right side Dwain Jacobs cross. Following the resumption of the second period,
Jacobs would double the lead in the 52nd minute, slotting home from the center of the penalty area after latching onto a Tichard Joseph cross.
The result would be sealed eight minutes later as Quason McAulay powered home his left footed strike from the top of the penalty box after receiving a through pass from Roundel Hutson.
With the win, Slingerz finished their campaign with 31 points from a possible 33 points, winning 10 games and drawing one in the process.
On Saturday at the same venue, Eagles FC led by a Jalen Williams helmet trick defeated Young Achievers by a 5-2 score line.
Williams opened his account in the 15th minute, doubling the lead for the Eagles side following Kerron Schmidt’s second minute opener. Williams would bag his brace three minutes later as Eagles took a commanding 3-0 lead.
Young Achievers’ Royston McLean would pull one back in the 34th minute as the first half ended 3-1. Eagles would restore their three goal lead as Williams grabbed his hat trick in the 56th minute.
McLean would complete his double as he found the back of the net in the 76th minute. However the result would be put to bed as Williams sealed his helmet trick, etching his name on the scorer’s sheet once more in the 86th minute.
