Lower East Coast Bulls, West Bank Demerara Mavericks, Georgetown Bears and Lower East Bank Lions yesterday recorded commanding victories when the third round of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB)/Raj Singh Insurance Company-sponsored O40 20-overs-a-side tournament continued.
At the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda, Fitzroy Culley’s belligerent 77 was not enough to prevent the
Georgetown Buffaloes from going down by six-wickets to the Lower East Coast Bulls in their encounter.
Culley, who hammered 12 fours and one huge six in his knock, was supported by Bertie Carmichael who scored 28. Raymond Karim picked up one wicket for 11 runs while six other bowlers claimed one scalp each.
In reply the Bulls scored scored 159 for 4 in 19.1 overs with Man-of-the-Match Clifton Anderson scoring 58, Seemangal Yadram, 29 and L. Gobin, 23.
Curt Caesar was the pick of the bowlers for Georgetown Buffaloes claiming 1 for 8.
Over at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, the East Coast Tigers suffered a 23-run loss at the hands of the West Bank Demerara Mavericks.
West bank Demerara Mavericks posted 179 for 8 from their 20 overs with man-of-the-match Eon Williams crafting 51 before returning with the ball to snatch two wickets. Imran Sullivan supported with an unbeaten 37.
J Hardat, 2 for 16, was the Tigers’ best bowler.
The East Coast team in their chase only managed 157 for 8 from their 20 overs.
Mark Malone, 30 and Jagdesh Persaud, 25, were the principal scorers.
At the Everest Cricket Club ground, Georgetown Bears edged Upper East Bank Colts by six runs.
Batting first the Bears compiled a formidable 167 for 5 from their quota of overs. Man-of-the-match Clive Grimmond smacked 59 and received support from Surendra Heralall who chipped in with a vital 37.
In reply, the Upper East Bank Colts fell short of the winning target and were eventually restricted to 161 for 7. Vijay Ramgobin’s 57 and skipper Rohan Sarjoo’s 37 were not enough to keep the team in the hunt. Carlos Reid and Heralall claimed figures of 3 for 13 and 2 for 21 respectively.
Playing at the Wales Community Centre ground, Lower East Bank Lions defeated West Coast Demerara Seals by three-wickets in their encounter. Chasing a target of 131 off 19.2 overs, Jai Singh struck a patient 55. He received valuable support from Latchman Persaud and Basil Persaud with 25 and 23 respectively.
Earlier, West Coast Demerara Seals’ B. Persaud top scored with 29 while D Persaud and Rabindranauth Seeram supported with 26 not out and 24 respectively. Rakesh Gangaram picked up 3 for one single run during his spell.
