The annual Mayor’s Cup Inter Ward/Village seven-a-side football tournament in honour of Georgetown Mayor Hamilton Green’s 79th birth anniversary is expected to get cracking tomorrow from 5pm at the Tucville Playfield with some 12 matches organiser Lennox Arthur said yesterday.
Arthur, the former national coach said he expects a very competitive competition which will last for three weeks and will be played
on a straight knockout basis with matches continuing on November 17 and 24.
The tournament is being in honour of Green who will celebrate his 79th birthday today.
In matches billed for tomorrow Bourda will oppose North Sophia; Wales will play Alberttown; Kuru Kururu will oppose East Ruimveldt; De Kinderen will tackle South Sophia; Bagotville will play Leopold Street; Plastic City will oppose Tiger Bay; Sara Lodge will come up against Charlotte Street; Goed Fortuin will oppose Berlin; Stewartville will tackle Meadowbrook; Crane will oppose North East La Penitence; Uitvlugt will play Newtown/kitty and Tuschen will oppose Kitty.
Sponsors of the tournament include Ricks and Sari, who have donated 20 hampers, Macorp, Chris Fernandes, GT&T, Lotto Company, Eddie Grant, New Thriving Restaurant; Giftland OfficeMax and Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
The winning team will receive $100,000 and the losing finalist $50,000.
