The Guyana National Road Safety Council, in partnership with the ministries of Home Affairs and Public Works, the Guyana Police Force and road safety stakeholders, will observe the World Day of Remembrance for road traffic victims with a public awareness walk and concert on November 17.
A release from the council requested all road safety stakeholders to assemble at the Kitty Seawall junction near the pump station between 2.30 and 3.00 pm on Sunday with plaques and photographs of persons killed and injured in road accidents. Move off time will be 3.30 pm.
The route will be West down Carifesta Avenue across to Young Street, Kingston to High Street, then North to Seawall Road, and East to conclude at the Seawall Bandstand for the public gathering and concert.
The World Day of Remembrance is dedicated to remembering the many victims of road accidents, to give public recognition to their families and communities for their loss and suffering, as well as to pay tribute to the dedicated emergency first responders including police and medical professionals who have to deal with the aftermath of road accidents.
It is an important tool for those whose work involve road accident prevention and response, since it gives an opportunity to demonstrate the enormous scale and impact of road deaths and injuries and the urgent need for concerted action to stop the carnage.
