Felix Gregoire, Pleni-potentiary Representative of the Commonwealth of Dominica to Caricom has commended Secretary General Irwin LaRocque for the emphasis being placed on the youth.
“…Given the programmes being developed and implemented on behalf of the youth, I daresay that the future for Caricom looks bright,” he said.
According to a release from the secretariat, Gregoire made these remarks when he presented his credentials at the Caricom Secretariat on Thursday.
He said he was pleased to be appointed as Ambassador to Caricom at a time when there was overwhelming desire to make the organisation more effective and efficient.
Gregoire referred to the reform process in train to have Caricom deliver an improved service and said that as the Change Driver appointed by the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, he had the honour to coordinate the national consultations in Dominica for the Caricom Change Team that visited in September 2013.
He said he was very impressed with the level of participation from the people of Dominica, who responded to the Caricom Team with great enthusiasm during the reform consultations and are looking forward towards the finalisation of the new strategic plan for Caricom.
The Dominican Ambas-sador stated that Caribbean people are interested in the free movement of people, goods and services as outlined in the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME). In Dominica, the movement of finance was identified as a priority item during the consultations, and many people echoed the need for equality and justice as pillars of Caribbean integration.
