BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC– 39 young footballers from across the region are attending the 2013 Digicel Kick Start Football Academy at Kensington oval in Barbados this week.
These players, drawn from 11 countries in the Caribbean and Central America, are learning about skill, technical ability as well as ethos of professionalism and a good attitude.
They were selected from thousands of aspiring young footballers bidding for selection to train for a week under top coaches from Barclays Premier League side, Chelsea FC.
“Digicel and Chelsea are helping the Government in its efforts to enhance the development of youth – thus creating a forum where leadership skills can be taught and team spirit is developed,” declared sports minister Stephen Lashley during the launch in Bridgetown yesterday. “The Digicel and Chelsea programme could be the vital start to marketing Barbados as a training venue ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio, [Brazil]”.
The Digicel Kick Start Football Academy is currently in its sixth year.
