With over 28 years in business, A Ally & Sons General Store continues to expand with the recent addition of an Auto Depot at Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam.
The commissioning ceremony for the new venture coincided with the 64th birth anniversary of the founder, Ahmad Ally who has been giving “regular persons” the opportunity to own their own ride.
He said this is done through a credit system as he has recognized that persons may not have all the money to purchase a car or have not met the requirement to obtain a loan.
According to him, “I grow with them and I know the struggles they face to make ends meet… I don’t want to put additional pressure on them.”
Described by well-wishers as a simple and humble man, Ally responded that he came from a “humble beginning” and that has taught him “not to be proud of anything.”
The businessman said while his business is
successful, it does not “divert from where you are going. In another couple of years it would only be memories and there would be another generation taking over.”
Ally’s eldest son, Faizal Ally, the Chief Executive Officer said the family thinks his father’s birthday was an appropriate time to launch the auto depot.
He said the idea of the venture started with a simple discussion while at a mosque on the Corentyne.
He gave praises to Allah for the success and said they have lived up to their slogan of “Making Life Better One Day at a Time…”
Region Six Chairman, David Armogan congratulated Ally who, according to him, has “developed his business in such a way that he has become one of the most prominent and progressive businessman…”
He said too that Ally has been expanding year after year in all forms of businesses, creating employment, developing his country and being patriotic to his land.
Chairperson of the event, Imam Mohamed Haniff said the Ally family has “brought a new dimension to business. They have changed the entire business landscape” and have been providing quality service.
He said too that “from 28 years ago the business has made leaps and bounds through the permission and the help of the creator.”
A. Ally & Sons started out as a furniture store in New Amsterdam in 1985, after Ally resigned from his job with the Guyana Sugar Corporation.
That was followed by the opening of A. Ally & Sons General Store at Main & Cooper Lane, New Amsterdam which stocks items including electrical and home appliances, computers and software, CDs and DVDs and bicycles.
Another branch, the A. Ally & Sons Showroom was then opened at Sheet Anchor, East Canje. The business then continued to expand with the establishment of A. Ally & Sons Home Depot at Strand, NA and the Corriverton Depot.
They subsequently launched the A. Ally & Sons Grove Depot on the East Bank of Demerara and will celebrate the first anniversary of that branch very soon.
