Coach of the defending Georgetown Football Association (GFA)/Banks Beer Cup Champions, Camptown FC’s Joseph ‘Bill’ Wilson says that his side will be preparing arduously in an attempt to defend their coveted crown.
“We are trying to put in the work, organize the team and get everything going in a professional manner. Currently we are going on fairly smoothly,” Wilson told this newspaper in relation to a question concerning the preparation of his team.
According to Wilson there are high expectations for his charges following their triumph in last year’s tournament and he hopes that the side can continue to work hard and prepare with the aim of repeating their past success.
“Our expectation is to win like everyone else. Like in any sport who delivers on the day wins and we have to take it one game at a time. We know we have to work hard on the things that will bring success and that the game demands such as the technical, tactical, physical and psychological aspects,” said Wilson.
He added: “Pressure can only come when you entertain it and it’s how you treat it. With the type of players we have, we expect them to know the expectations and how to deal with it”.
Asked about his thoughts on facing a relatively unknown element in their opening encounter, Wilson said: “We have to play our game and see how things proceed. We have to play to our strengths and try our best to conceal our weaknesses.
“Our expectations are never beyond where it should be. We have to just take it one game at a time. The first game is to set the benchmark,” said Wilson.
Camptown will begin the defence of their title when they oppose an Essequibo select side on the event’s opening night at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Bourda on Saturday November 23rd.
