Buxton toddler dies after falling through floor

A toddler died yesterday after falling through a construction hole in the floor of his grandparents’ home at Buxton, East Coast Demerara.

Two-year-old Seon Robinson Jr, of Buxton Front Road, would usually spend the days at his maternal grandparents’ home, where they baby sat him ever since he was an infant.

His aunt Melissa Adams told Stabroek News that her father and Robinson’s grandfather Linden Robinson was “taking a rest” as he was devastated by the accident and still trying to come to grips with what occurred. During this newspaper’s visit to the home, the grandmother sat at the dining room table and she too seemed unable to speak about the toddler’s death.

“My father said he was nailing this window and don’t know how he fell… he didn’t see him come into the room,” she said.

Adams explained that the bedroom floor, through which the child fell, was familiar terrain for him. Further, given that the boy was normally scared to venture across the holes in floor, the family was perplexed as to how he fell.

While the child landed on the earth below, it is assumed by relatives that he possibly fell head-first.

Adams said that the child was picked up by his grandfather and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he died as doctors fought to save his life with emergency medical treatment.

The aunt reflected on the toddler’s short life span. She described him as bubbly with an inquisitive mind and always full of energy. She said that it was because of their fondness of the child that her grandfather would “make it his duty” to every morning walk to the front and collect the child to spend the day with him and his wife.

“My father would go and collect him every morning… he was just a busybody sweet child… he always wanted to know what was being done and when my father working he would keep his company … up to yesterday (Thursday) he was practicing for sports, if you hear him…,” she said.

Robinson’s mother, Makeisha Adams-Robinson was “trying to come to grips” with all that has happened, her sister said. The sister informed that Adams-Robinson has one other child, an 11-month-old.

Members of the family visited the Vigilance Police Station after the George-town Public Hospital to report the accident and they were questioned and gave statements to police. Investigations are still continuing.
