Reduced water supply for Lusignan residents

Lusignan, East Coast Demerara residents served by one of the two Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) community well stations are receiving experiencing reduced levels of service due to voltage fluctuations affecting the facility.

In a press release issued yesterday, GWI advised that the reduced service is due to incorrect voltage being received at Lusignan Well Station #1.

According to GWI Public Relations Officer Timothy Austin, the problem with the well affects North and South Lusignan along with central Lusignan. However, he pointed out that not the entire Lusignan is affected since the area is supplied with water from two wells, one of which is still fully functional. He was unable to give an estimate of how many persons are affected by the reduced levels of service.

GWI, however, noted in its release that it is working with the Guyana Power and Light Company (GPL) to restore normal service.

When Stabroek News made contact with a GPL representative at the East Coast of Demerara branch, it was reported that the problem was fixed Thursday evening.

However, Austin said that the problem was not fixed in Lusignan and stated that the community’s residents are still calling GWI’s Customer Services.

Earlier this week, GWI services from Unity to Lancaster had been affected. However, services along that corridor have since mostly resumed.

For further updates, affected customers are advised to contact GWI’s Customer Services Call Centre at 227-8701/03 or 04, send emails to customercallcentre@gwi.gy, visit GWI’s social media page at www.facebook. com/everydropcountsgy or send a message via BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) to 296185F9.
