Allen feels BK Western Tigers could win GFA Cup

Calvin Allen, coach of BK Western Tigers football club, says that even though his side will competing in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA)/Banks Beer Cup for the first time he is of the opinion that his charges possess the ability to walk away with the title.

In an exclusive interview via telephone Allen said:”We are entering the event for the first time and will take it one step at a time. We will be preparing technically and tactically for the first game and will take it from there.

He added:”We have to work on the things that we are doing well but we also have to work on eliminating our mistakes which are simply basic.”

Allen said that aside from a few minor injuries to key players, preparation has been progressing fairly smoothly.

“Currently we are planning in small stages and just trying not to look too far ahead. We know we will be there and will give a good account of ourselves,” said Allen.

Questioned about his expectations for his team, Allen said:”Once we have everyone fit we can win the crown. We have the quality, player-for-player we can match any club in the country. Once we get everyone to full fitness, we will do well for ourselves.

“It would definitely be an honour to win it in the first try for the club and for me as a coach. I couldn’t think of better way to close out the year,” added Allen.

Allen noted that while his team doesn’t know much about their opponents Kwakwani Strikers, they will not be leaving anything to chance as complacency within the side could easily lead to an early exit.

“We definitely won’t be leaving anything to chance and we have to prepare for everything. I definitely know we can handle them but I am expecting a tough encounter. It should be a good opening game for us and a good test,” added Allen.

Absent from the previous two tournaments due to the impasse that surrounded the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and GFA,  BK Western Tigers will begin their maiden campaign against Kwakwani Strikers on  December 13 at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground in Linden.
