A telling spell of bowling from pacer Keon Sinclair steered Rose Hall Town Pepsi cricket team into the Semi-finals of the Elizabeth Styles Under-19 limited overs cricket competition after they defeated Skeldon Community Centre by 46 runs in a quarter-final encounter recently.
Played at the Skeldon Community Development Centre ground the match was reduced to 45-overs-a-side because of a late start due to rain.
Rose Hall Town Pepsi, batting first, made 130 all out in 40 overs with Berbice youth batsmen Arif Chan (48) and Devin Baldeo (32) and Guyana Under-19 all-rounder Shailendra Shameer (18) the principal scorers.
Off-spinners Dion Esau 4 for 8, Umesh Kumar 3 for 35 and Berbice U19 cricketer Parmanand Narine 2 for 16, were Skeldon’s main wicket takers.
Skeldon Community Centre, in reply, suffered a dramatic collapse sliding to 84 all out in 31 overs. Resistance came from the bats of Kamesh Sugrim 19 not out and Azad Mohamed 16.
Sinclair captured 6 for 22 from nine overs and Shameer the remaining four wickets to help wrap up a convincing win for the Rose Hall team.
