A larceny accused was placed on $100,000 bail on Friday after facing four separate charges at the New Amsterdam Court.
Safraz Ali, 40, of 326 Canefeild, East Canje, Berbice, was charged with two counts of simple larceny, one count of break and enter and larceny and one count of attempt to commit a felony.
He pleaded not guilty to simple larceny charges and was not required to plead to the other two charges when he appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus.
It was alleged that between November 13 and 14, at Canefield, East Canje, Ali stole a $27,000 bicycle, which was the property of Bai Ramnarine. It was also alleged that on November 14, at Canefield, Ali stole another bicycle, which was the property of Arvin Doodnauth. He denied both charges and was released on $10,000 bail for each.
Ali was also charged along with Mark Codogan, 17, of breaking and entering the dwelling place of Bibi Hanifa Wazir and stealing jewellery, a shoulder bag and a cellular phone, totalling $392,500 and which were the properties of Jahora Hosain.
Ali and Cadogan were released on $60,000 bail each.
According to the fourth charge against Ali, between November 13 and 14, he attempted to commit a felony, that is a burglary by trying to steal two louvre panes, worth $1,500. He was released on $20,000 on this charge.
Ali’s next hearings are fixed for December 11 at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court.
