Ryon Mentore is now a remanded prisoner after he was denied bail on a charge that he attacked another man with a metal pipe.
Mentore, 28, of 795 ‘B’ Field, South Sophia, was not required to enter a plea to the charge that he inflicted grievous bodily harm on Sherwin Anthony Marciano.
According to the police’s case, on August 29, at 1.30pm, Mentore and Marciano were on High Street in the vicinity of the Ashmin’s Store, when an argument broke out between them. It is alleged that during the altercation Mentore picked up a metal pipe and dealt Marciano several lashes about his body. The matter was subsequently reported.
Magistrate Faith McGusty, who presided at Mentore’s arraignment at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, asked about the time between the alleged attack and the reading of the charge against him and if anyone had tried to reach Mentore. Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman, in response, explained that Mentore was only arrested on Monday and that police were unable to reach him before.
Blackman objected to bail, telling the magistrate that Mentore is a flight risk because he normally works in the interior. Magistrate McGusty subsequently denied bail and remanded Mentore to prison until November 26, when he will appear before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at Court One.
