The Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) in-creased its postage rates for domestic and international services from November 18.
A release from the GPOC said this was necessary to bring the corporation’s revenue in line with its costs.
In addition, geographical factors were also taken into consideration to determine the increases.
It said that the GPOC had also taken into consideration the changes taking place in the exchange of international mail and how postal operations compensate each other.
It was no longer practical for rates, which have been constant since 2003, to remain unchanged.
The release said that for the first 20 grammes, the domestic rate is now $80; the Caribbean rate is $130; the Central, North and South America rate, $150; the rate for Great Britain is $160; and for Asia, Africa, Europe and Australia, $200.
The GPOC also advised that the deadline for sending mail including packages to overseas destinations is December 9, while the deadline for posting domestic mail is December 17.
