A skater was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) by public spirited citizens on Monday, after he was involved in an accident, in the vicinity of Lucky Dollar.
Shane Washington, 15, of Lyng Street, Charlestown, was rushed to the GPH after he was involved in an accident in the vicinity of Lucky Dollar, on Camp and Regent streets. Washington, who had to be assisted out of the police van that took him to the hospital, was in a semi-conscious state at the time he was being taken into the accident and emergency unit of GPH. The entire left side of his face was swollen and blood was gushing out of his mouth.
According to an eyewitness, who was heading to Alexander Street, he saw the injured boy lying on the road crying out for pains and quickly rushed to Washington’s aid. The eyewitness also told Stabroek that a passerby, who pretended to have been assisting with calling contacts from his phone, in an effort to reach the boy’s family and inform them, disappeared with the phone.
Friends of Washington, who is a student of St Mary’s Secondary School told this newspaper, that the 15-year-old was on his way to meet them, when he was struck down. They also noted that he is a regular skater.
Up to when Stabroek News left GPH no one was able to say what hit Washington down. The only information given by one of the rescuers, was that Washington was lying on the road and a man was seen picking up a bicycle at the scene.
The boy’s tearful mother only told this newspaper that she was told that her son needs a scan in order to assess possible injuries.
