Half-centuries from Albion Community Centre players Jonathan Foo and Devendra Bishoo and another from Universal Solutions Bermine Shemroy Barrington steered their respective teams to the second round of the 2013 Ramcharitar Construction Services first-division limited overs knockout competition last weekend.
Also through to the next round were Port Mourant Karibee Rice, Police and West Berbice who also won their
respective first round matches two Saturdays ago.
Playing at Blairmont, Albion trounced the home team by 127 runs after amassing 221 for 6 in their 40 overs. Bishoo, the former West Indies leg-spinner crafted an unbeaten 60 and returned with the ball to collect 3 for 24 while the former Guyana T20 batsman Foo also scored 60 in his efforts after solid starts were provided from ex-West Indies opening batsman Sewnarine Chattergoon (38) and national wicket keeper/batsman Anthony Bramble (37).
Bowling for Blairmont Community Centre, leg-spinner Kevin Jawahir grabbed 2 for 47 from eight overs. In their chase Blairmont Community Centre were skittled out for 94. Bishoo, 3-24, West Indies Under-19 spinner Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai (2-17) and former Berbice U-19 off-spinner Veerapen Permaul (3 for 27) were the wicket takers. West Indies ‘A’ left-handed batsman Leon Johnson (34) was the only player to offer resistance.
Over at Edinburgh, Universal Solutions Bermine beat Edinburgh by eight wickets with 30 overs to spare. The former Guyana opening batsman Barrington carried his bat through the chase ending on an unbeaten 50 as his team eased to 81 for 2, chasing a paltry 79.
Earlier, Edinburgh won the toss, elected to bat and were dismissed for 79 in 25.1 overs. Deonarine Seepersaud’s 20 was the highest score of the innings.
Bowling for Universal Solutions Bermine, Berbice off-spinner Devon Clements (3-8), National U19 all-rounder Romario Shepherd (3-35) and former Guyana U19 all-rounder Eugene La Fleur (2-15) were the main wicket takers.
The sixth first round match between Bush Lot Rising Star and Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets will be contested Saturday at Bush Lot in West Berbice, while the second round of the competition is scheduled to bowl off during the same period.
