Marlon Nicholson of District 5 West Coast Berbice defeated a seasoned field to win the 10k Road Race yesterday in the first event of the Ministry of Education/Guyana Teachers’ Union Digicel-sponsored National Schools’ Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships.

Running without footwear in the race that began at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary, Nicholson stopped the clock at 37:27s to defeat District 6 Corentyne’s Denzil Leitch and District 9 Rupununi’s Aran Francis who finished second and third respectively with times of 37:52 and 37:59.
Rounding out the top five was East Coast’s Ornesto Thomas and District 11 North Georgetown’s Carl Mckenzie who registered times of 38:31 and 38:43 respectively.
On the distaff side in the same event, Beverley Ignacio of Rupununi registered a time of 43:30s to clinch the easy win over West Coast Berbice’s Delicia Harper (48:18) and Corentyne’s Marissa Lawson (58:26).
