Chathram Gangadin slammed a belligerent century as Lower East Coast Bulls thrashed Upper East Bank Colts by 64 runs in the seventh preliminary round of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB)/Raj Singh Insurance Brokers Over-40 20-overs-a-side competition yesterday.
Batting first at the Lusignan Community Centre ground, the Bulls posted a mammoth 208 for 3 compliments of Gangadin’s 119
which was decorated with nine fours and six sixes. He was well supported by Latchman Yadram who made 46.
In reply, Upper East Bank Colts crashed to 144 for 6, with S. Ramdeen and S. Patadin being the main contributors with 38 and 32 runs respectively. Man-of-the-match Gangadin and Dexter Jones were the pick of the bowlers each snaring 2 for 8.
Over at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, Georgetown Bears romped to a massive 109-run victory over their city counterparts The Buffaloes after a whirlwind knock from Surendra Heralall.
Heralall mauled the opposition bowling attack clobbering 10 fours and two sixes during his knock of 97. He was supported by Cylus Gibson and Carlos Reid who chipped in with 27 runs apiece, taking the Bears to an imposing 178 for 5 from their 20 overs after batting first.
Chasing the daunting total the Buffaloes were dismissed for 69 in 10 overs after being bamboozled by the bowling of S. Khan who picked up a hat trick during his spell to finish with figures of four wickets for five runs from four overs and L. Persaud who claimed three wickets for four runs.
Reginald Rodrigues was the top scorer for The Buffaloes with 16.
Over at the Enmore Community Centre ground, Upper East Coast Tigers made light work of Lower East Bank Lions. Needing to win the match to qualify for a semi-final spot, Lions scored a decent 141 for 7 with Sahadeo Hardeo leading the way with 47 and Rakesh Gangaram making 29. Left arm orthodox spinner Basheer Khan was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 9.
In their reply, Tigers cruised to 146 to 2 in 14 overs courtesy of Eon Abel’s unbeaten 92 (11×4, 4×6).
The semi-final leg of the tournament will take place next Friday.
