A man was on Wednesday accused of breaking and entering the home of his neighbours and robbing them of hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of jewellery.
Rondes Barker, of Lot 26 Norton Street, was remanded to prison when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that about 6 pm on November 17, he broke into the home of his neighbours, a mother and daughter, after they had secured it and had gone out. At around 7.30 pm, when they returned home, the women found the front door open and Barker was allegedly seen inside the home by the mother. The stolen jewellery, valued at $390,000, included several chains, a bracelet, and a gold ring.
After the charge was read to him, Barker pleaded not guilty. Prosecutor Bharat Mangru objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the crime. Barker was subsequently remanded to prison until November 29, when the case will be called at Court Three.
