Two murder accused were yesterday found not guilty in two separate trials in the High Court.
Chanderband Indar who was on trial before Justice Diana Insanally was found not guilty of the murder of Ravindra Singh.
Indar, 51, of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, was accused of murdering Singh, a carpenter of Annandale, East Coast Demerara on May 31, 2010. Singh’s lifeless body was discovered in a home at Lot 26, Block CC, Mon Repos, ECD after he had spent the night drinking with friends.
The man’s mother had said that her son was last seen the day before by another relative
in the community where he lived and where he was discovered.
A post-mortem examination conducted on Singh revealed that he died as a result of manual strangulation.
Indar was represented by attorney George Thomas, while prosecutor Dhanika Singh presented the state’s case.
In the other case, Khemraj Boodhoo called ‘Sham’ and ‘Shaw’ was before Justice James Bovell-Drakes for July 5, 2005 murder of Lilendra Roopnarine called ‘Boyo’.
Boodhoo’s case was called up for trial in 2010 but the proceedings were aborted and the indictment was quashed after the judge found that the magistrate’s committal was bad in law as it did not touch on all aspects of the law.
However, because the charge was still valid, the judge had ordered the preliminary inquiry to be redone within 120 days.
Attorney Keavon Bess appeared for the defendant, while Natasha Backer led the state’s case. After setting Boodhoo free Justice Bovell-Drakes exhorted him to walk a straight and narrow path.
