Dozens of black garbage bags with legal paperwork and other items said to be unwanted material were up to late yesterday afternoon piled in the compound of the newly-furbished Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. The large pile was so close to the fence that some of the papers were lying on the Avenue of the Republic pavement for all to read. Stabroek News understands that the pile of papers came from within the building and had been in the heap for the past three days. This newspaper was reliably informed that a truck was on its way to collect them. Contacted for a comment, Legal Affairs Ministry Anil Nandlall said that the Registrar of the Supreme Court and the Clerk are the custodians of the records of both the Supreme Court and the Magistrate’s Court and such an issue should be directed to them for comment. He said that he was not certain if what was piled up in the compound was unwanted material, while noting that it would be premature for him to comment. Efforts to contact the Registrar were futile.
