At about 1830h yesterday, police say that a plain clothes police rank observed a man walking behind a couple in the vicinity of Anira and Irving Streets, Queenstown.
The policeman, suspecting that a robbery was about to take place, intervened and challenged the suspicious character who pulled out a firearm and opened fire on the policeman. The policeman returned fire but the suspect managed to escape on a motor cycle ridden by a waiting accomplice.
Later, at about 2030h. police say that the suspect went to the GPHC for treatment to a gunshot injury to a finger on his left hand. The police were informed and he is under guard at the hospital.
He has been identified as Jamal Cromwell, 20 years, of Tucville, Georgetown.
