A motorcyclist is in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation after an accident yesterday morning.
Akeem Alli, 18 years, of Lot 80 West Ruimveldt was on his way to collect his brother from work when he lost control and smashed into a median along the East Bank Highway in the vicinity of Houston with his 125CC Jailing motorcycle.
Alli was wearing his helmet, however the impact of the crash did leave him with severe internal bleeding including swelling of the brain and in his abdomen. Persons at the scene recalled that Alli’s helmet was crumpled. Alli’s brother relayed that Alli had been riding for a little over four months, but that he was diligent about wearing his helmet and was a careful rider.
The slick roadway may have been a factor in Alli’s accident as it had been raining earlier in the morning.
Alli’s brother recalled that he finished working at 9:00 am at BV Enterprises and was waiting on Alli. He stated that when his brother didn’t arrive he was concerned and then learnt of the accident. All’s mother told Stabroek News that she received the call and that the family rushed to GPHC where they were told that he was in critical condition and would require immediate surgery.
GPHC staff had initially stated that Alli would need to undergo a CT scan to assess the severity of his injuries focusing on any brain swelling and bleeding.
However instead he was rushed into surgery due to the severity of his injuries which also included a broken leg.
