Alpha United disposed of Linden side Winners Connections 4-0 in the feature matchup when action in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Premier League continued at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda on Sunday.
Anthony Abrams opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a superb strike from inside the centre of the 18-yard box to the right hand corner of the goal.
Andrew Murray Jr. doubled their lead eight minutes later as he found the back of the net with a clinical strike to the lower left hand corner from the right side of the box, after receiving a perfectly played through pass from the centre of the park by Gregory Richardson.
Alpha would further strengthen their position five minutes into the resumption of the second period through a goalkeeping error by Jamal Gibbons.
Positioned to the left between the woodwork in an attempt to defend a 27- yard free kick from Richardson, Gibbons upon moving to his left to gather the tame effort, inexplicably allowed the ball to slip straight through his arms and roll over the goal line.
Winners Connections would fashion their best opportunity in the 66th minute from a set piece play as a thunderous Lennox Allicock right-footed free kick from just outside the penalty area flew narrowly over the crossbar.
The eventual score line would be completed four minutes later as Sheldon Holder netted from the penalty spot following a rash challenge inside the penalty area on Richardson. Holder dispatched the resulting spot kick calmly to the lower left hand corner of the net.
The opening fixture of the doubleheader between Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph United and Riddim Squad FC was abandoned without a second being played following Riddim Squad’s refusal to compete over the non-eligibility of their player Kester Alleyne.
