Fifteen schools to remain closed on Friday

The Ministry of Education this evening said that the following schools will remain closed tomorrow, Friday, November 29, 2013:          The Ministry said the decision to have the schools remain closed was made after checks by Ministry officials revealed that as a result of the slow pace in the receding of the flood waters, no sanitation work could have commenced.

Civil Society presents petition to Caricom on DR nationality ruling

The regional civil society on Tuesday presented a petition to Caricom Heads of Government denouncing a controversial court ruling in the Dominican Republic (DR) that could strip tens of thousands of persons – mostly of Haitian descent – of their DR citizenship Presenting the petition, Professor Norman Girvan said Caricom has an “historic opportunity” to demonstrate its relevance to, and its caring for, the citizens of the region by resolving the issue, according to a press release yesterday from Caricom.
