(Jamaica Gleaner) The police say they will be seeking the help of its international partners as it probes the seizure of an ammunition making machine and thousands of warheads.
Head of the Constabulary Communication Network Deputy Superintendent Steve Brown says a team comprising the police and customs discovered 3300 warheads and the machine in a barrel on the wharf yesterday.
A warhead is the explosive head of a missile, torpedo, or similar weapon.
DSP Brown says the team also recovered other items which can be put together to make a round of ammunition.
He says the police have launched a search for a Manchester man who they believe can assist them in the probe.
Meanwhile, he described the seizure as a major success for law enforcement and added that it is a massive dent in the illicit gun trade.
DSP Brown says customs agents were carrying out routine checks yesterday when they came became suspicious of a barrel.
He says the police was called in, the barrel was then opened and the contraband found in it.
He emphasised that the seizure of the ammunition making machine and the other items highlights the harsh challenges the police face.
However, DSP Brown maintains that the police continue to build its intelligence capabilities to combat transnational crime.
