The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC), in keeping with its ‘Pro-education and Anti-drugs’ Programme, on Tuesday donated the Best Student Trophy and other awards to the New Amsterdam Secondary School and revealed plans for its massive Christmas programme.
The RHTYSC said the multi-million-dollar Christmas programme will cap off a highly successful 2013 where it, along with its seven cricket teams, completed 180 programmes/projects this year. The club’s cricket teams: the Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Gizmos & Gadgets First Division and Metro Females presented the trophy and five other education medals to the secondary school for its annual awards ceremony, as part of their personal developmental programme.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster said since its formation in 1990, education has been at the forefront of the RHTYSC’s programme as he strongly believes that it is a person’s most valuable asset.
This year, the club’s cricket teams have assisted 38 schools with trophies, medals and sport gears while over $5M worth of educational materials was donated to less fortunate students. Foster also said that the New Amsterdam Secondary School is very special to him and several other club members as it is their alma mater, and he pledged to provide more aid to the school, including a donation of books for the school’s library.
Meanwhile, the club’s cricket teams are currently preparing for its Christmas Charity Programme which includes a children’s party for 800 kids, a senior citizens luncheon for 150 persons, distributing 500 food hampers to needy families and sharing over $500,000 worth of toys to churches, orphanages, youth groups and children at Rose Hall.
Plans are also in train to assist the Berbice Cricket Board to distribute hampers to less fortunate cricketers across the ancient county while 12 cricket teams would receive toys for children in their areas. The RHTYSC will also be working closely with the recently resuscitated St Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Youth Club, of which Foster is also the CEO.
The club will be providing toys for all the Roman churches in Region Six, hosting a Christmas concert and luncheon for the Port Mourant orphanages, a youth dinner and distributing hampers to senior citizens.
