North East La Penitence trounced defending national champions Back Circle 3-0 in their group-C match-up when action in the Guinness Greatest of the Streets Georgetown Zone continued last night at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac on Hadfield Street and Mandela Avenue.
In a half of very few opportunities, Calvin Moore opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a well-placed flat strike to the lower right hand corner of the goal from the left side of the field.
Upon the commencement of the rain, the second half would spring to life as both sides tried to strengthen their contrasting positions. Utilizing a game plan of attacking on the counter, North East La Penitence would double their lead in the 20th minute through a gem of a finish by Carl Tudor.
Sprinting down the left flank, Tudor would latch onto a lobbed right- sided cross that evaded everyone outside the centre of the goal before thumping his effort into the right side of the net.
Staring down a two-goal deficit with the seconds ticking away, Back Circle would fashion their best attempt on goal as a Dwayne Ali right- footed strike in the 24th minute from the left flank, flew narrowly wide of the right post.
North East La Penitence would complete the deserved victory with the very last kick of the fixture as Alwyn Moore found the back of the net in the 30th minute. Lurking just outside the right side of the penalty area, A. Moore would catch the Back Circle defence napping as he slotted home unchallenged to the right side of the net after collecting a pass from a right-sided corner kick. In the evening’s opening group-C fixture, North Sophia upset Festival City 3-1 on penalty kicks following a nil-all score line at the end of regulation.
