The Charity Health Centre located in the compound of the Oscar Joseph District Hospital, Charity, Region Two was yesterday commissioned.
Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Ganga Persaud, who was in the region for the official commissioning, said that the building, which was completed earlier this year, cost $10.9 million. He added that the health centre was built to benefit residents of both Charity and the Pomeroon River.
“This health centre will provide for the care and comfort of everyone in this area,” Regional Chairman Parmanand Persaud, who also addressed the gathering, said. Regional Health Officer Dr Alison Brown and Regional Executive Officer Sunil Singh were also present at the commissioning. The centre will serve as an alternative to the hospital, particularly for persons who might not be critically ill.
