To mark one century in existence, the Harmony Lodge (Scottish Masonic) yesterday donated a stand-up freezer to Uncle Eddie’s Home (UEH).
“This is part of what we do…,’’said Azad De Abreu, Right Worshipful Master of the Lodge, which is located on Carmichael Street, as he elaborated on the outreach programmes the Lodge is embarking on while celebrating its anniversary.
Present at the handing over of the freezer were Norma Hamilton, Administrator of UEH and Gladwyn Anderson, Vice President of the Management Committee of UEH.
UEH, which is a home for the elderly, is located at 826-829 Jackson Street, Tucville.
Anderson, who spoke on behalf of UEH, told Stabroek News that he was grateful for the donation, while noting that it was in response to the home’s call for help. “The Management Committee has been asking for donations…and this organisation came in, checked and asked us what we would need… I thought about this freezer here…,” Anderson said.
Before the donation, Anderson noted, residents had to go to shops to buy drinks. Along with the perilous trek to those shops, they were also never given back change when they paid with $1,000 notes.
Both Anderson and Hamilton reiterated the need for more donations to be made to the home. Some of its needs include the painting of the building and roof, floor repairs and refurbishing of the lawn.
