Castello Housing Scheme upset defending champions Leopold Street 3-2 on sudden death kicks after normal time ended 1-1 when the Guinness Greatest of the Streets Georgetown Zone continued yesterday at the Burnham Basketball Court on Middle and Carmichael streets.
Okeene Fraser opened the scoring for the defending champions in the third minute with a right-footed strike to the bottom of the net from the right side of the field, after receiving a left-sided pass from Omallo Williams.
Williams almost doubled his side’s lead in the 9th minute as his left- footed snap shot from the left side of the field came crashing off the right upright.
Castello Housing Scheme would level proceedings in the 14th minute of the second period as a Sherman Anthony effort from just outside the centre of the penalty area, took a slight deflection off of a Leopold St defender and nestled at the back of the net.
Anthony almost pushed his side into the lead in the 21st minute with a right-sided strike that skipped narrowly wide of the left post.
With normal time unable to find a winner, the penalty shoot-out decider was required. However the initial round of spot kicks produced a 2-2 score line as both sides missed a penalty apiece.
Sudden death kicks would eventually find a winner as Leopold Street failed to hit the target following Castello Housing Scheme’s conversion from the spot.
In an earlier matchup, East Front Road defeated Cross Street 1-0. Kester Briggs’ 17th minute strike was enough to separate the two sides in a cagey opening affair.
Collecting the ball on the left side of the field, Briggs would place his right-footed strike down the middle of the goal to seal the hard fought win.
