Island All-Stars edged West Front Road-Gold is Money 1-0 when action in the Guinness Greatest of the Streets Georgetown Zone continued last evening at the Burnham Basketball Court on Middle and Carmichael streets.
Alpha McPhoy broke the deadlock in the third minute with a sublime right- footed strike. Scampering down the right side to intercept the ball, McPhoy would unleash a perfectly placed right-footed effort that settled into the roof of the net.
Stunned by their concession, West Front Road almost levelled the score line in the 10th minute as a Hubert Pedro strike from just outside the centre of the shooting arc, flew narrowly wide of the left post.
Forced to defend for the majority of the second period, Island All-Stars almost doubled their advantage in the 15th minute as McPhoy thumped his right-footed shot just wide of the left post.
Struggling to penetrate the dogged defending of the Island All-Stars backline, H. Pedro almost restored parity to proceedings in the 22nd minute as his attempt from the centre of the field flew just wide of sneaking inside the left post.
Albouystown-A rebounded from their opening loss to defeat South Sophia 2-0 in an earlier fixture. Andrew Murray Jr. netted the opener for Albouystown through a penalty kick conversion following a South Sophia player being struck with the ball from a shot inside the restricted area.
Shemroy Arthur almost levelled the score line for Sophia in the 12th minute, only for his attempt from the left side of the field to come crashing off the left upright.
Scorer of Albouystown’s opening goal, Murray Jr. would miss an open goal from just outside the centre of the restricted area in the 18th minute as the back and forth battle raged on.
Murray Jr. would be guilty of missing another open opportunity from the same position as his attempt flew just over the crossbar in the 21st minute.
Albouystown-A would eventually put the contest to bed with the final kick of the fixture in the 24th minute as Shaka Jones thumped his right-footed strike from the centre of the park, right down the middle of the woodwork.
