A 20-year-old man was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with the fatal chopping of a pork knocker at 8 miles North West District, Port Kaituma.
Mark Creame was not required to plead to the capital charge when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. It was alleged that on December 1, at 8 Miles North West District, he murdered Terrence Henry. Henry, 40, of Oronoque Port Kaituma, was incorrectly identified as Terrence France in a previous Stabroek News report.
Prosecutor Bharat Mangru said that Creame, who was angry at Henry because of a previous incident, saw the deceased drinking at a shop and confronted him. Mangru added that Henry later retired to a hammock in his camp and Creame subsequently armed himself with a cutlass and dealt the man several chops about his body, causing his death. The Chief Magistrate remanded Creame to prison until February 3, when the case will be called at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
