Slingerz FC breezed past Cougars 3-1 when action in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA)/Banks Beer Knockout Cup continued on Friday at the No. #5 Community ground on the West Coast of Berbice.
Kevon Woodley opened the scoring for the Vergenoegen side in the 39th minute with a strike to the bottom of the net after receiving a right- sided Dwain Jacobs cross.
Slingerz would double their lead in the 53rd minute of the second period as Woodley completed his brace with a strike to the right-hand side of the goal from inside the penalty area.
Devon Millington almost added his name to the scorer’s sheet in the 62nd minute as his 22-yard right-footed free kick from the centre of the park, sailed narrowly wide of sneaking into the left-hand side of the framework.
The win would be sealed in the 69th minute as Jamal Harvey directed his header from the centre of the penalty box, into the lower right hand corner of the net after latching onto a perfectly played Jacobs’s right- sided cross.
Cougars would register a consolation goal in the 82nd minute following the awarding of a fortuitous penalty kick for a perceived handball inside the box by defender Colin Nelson, in his attempt to chest the ball back to his goalkeeper.
Stepping up to take the resulting spot kick, Delroy Ferdinand would bury his effort beyond the reach of the Slingerz custodian into the left-hand side of the net.
