Hubert Pilgrim, who was accused of the murder of nursery school teacher Natalie Loncke, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter in the High Court yesterday before Justice Diane Insanally.
Pilgrim was on trial in the High Court over the February, 2011 murder of Loncke. According to reports, Loncke was stabbed in the head by Pilgrim after a domestic violence argument turned violent on the night of February 12, 2011 at her Norton Street home. Loncke had succumbed to two stab wounds to her head about fifteen minutes after being rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state. Her daughter had sustained a small bruise to the left side of her face.
A wanted bulletin was subsequently issued by the police for Pilgrim, who was captured several months later in Suriname after a report of assault was made against him.
Pilgrim is expected to be sentenced on December 19th, when the matter is called again in the High Court.
Attorney Hukumchand represented the accused while Dhanika Singh presented the state’s case.
