City tailor Collin Allicock, 54, was remanded to prison yesterday after being charged with the alleged possession of an unlicensed .32 revolver and five matching rounds.
According to a police report presented at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts by Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, ranks from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), acting on information, went to Allicock’s home at Lot 52 D’Urban Street, George-town on December 10 and conducted a search. The search resulted in the revolver and matching rounds being found in a chair belong to Allicock, Mangru said, before adding that the tailor was told of the offence and admitted to it under caution.
Allicock, however, denied the charge when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and the court heard that he kept the gun because he was robbed on several occasions.
Allicock’s attorney Mark Waldron said that his client was in his yard when he noticed the police entering it. The police, according to Waldron, asked Allicock about his eldest son, for whom they claim-ed they were searching. Sometime during the day in question, Allicock’s premises were searched and the gun and matching ammunition was found, the lawyer said.
The Chief Magistrate denied bail to Allicock and transferred the case to Court 5, where it is scheduled to be called on January 13.
