Netrockers sealed their quarterfinal berth, defeating Flamingo by a 3-0 margin when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA)/Banks Beer Cup continued on Wednesday at the Tucville Community ground.
In a match-up that produced eight cautions including one red card, the Linden side opened the scoring in the 10th minute through a Denzil Price effort to the bottom of the net.
Racing into the penalty area in an attempt to collect a through pass, Price would fortuitously get on the end of the intended pass after the Flamingo custodian upon advancing to gather the ball inexplicably allowed it to roll under his body, gifting Price with an easy finish to an empty net.
The spotlight would fall on the Flamingo custodian once again as Netrockers doubled their advantage in a comical manner through a Ray Fraser 36th minute conversion.
Awarded a spot kick just over the half-way line, Fraser upon lobbing his effort into the box would unexpectedly etch his name on the scorer’s sheet as the ball landed just in front the advancing Flamingo shot stopper, before bouncing comically over his head and into the goal.
The win would be sealed in the 80th minute of the second period as Errol Davis added to the score line with a right-footed smash into the roof of the net from just inside the centre of the penalty box, to beat the advancing goalkeeper.
Further misery would befall the Georgetown side as Deshawn Wills was shown a straight red card in the 90th minute for using excessive force on an opposing player. In the opening fixture, Northern Rangers squeaked past Black Pearl 4-1 on penalty kicks after normal time ended 2-2.
