Akeila defeated Larissa in the battle of the Wiltshire siblings when the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) Farfan and Mendes Junior tourney continued on Friday at the Georgetown Club squash courts.
Matches in the event are being contested in six categories. In Category E and F, matches are decided by a best of three margin while matches in categories A through D, are decided by a best out of five format.
Competing in category-A, Akeila took the opening set by an 11-6 margin. She would strengthen her position by winning the second set 11-7 and the win would be sealed in third set which she won 11-8.
In the second matchup in this division, Alec Melville was simply too good for Taylor Fernandes, prevailing in straight sets by an 11 – 3, 11 – 6, 11 – 5 margin.
Shomari Wiltshire defeated Rebecca Low in straight sets in their category-B matchup while Alex Cheeks overcame Daniel Islam in a five set salvo winning 8-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-5 and 11-6 in the final fixture of this division.
In Category-C, Michael Ramroop overcame Anthony Islam in straight sets 12 – 10, 11 – 8, 12 – 10 whilst Maya Collins went down to Jael Gaskin in straight sets 7-11, 5-11, 6-11. The final matchup at this division saw Savannah Mendes defeating Makeda Harding 11-4, 11-8, 11-9.
Dominic Collins disposed of Demetrius De Abreu in straight sets 11 – 8, 11 – 4, 11 – 7 in their Category-D matchup while Jonathan Edwards edged out Gianni Carpenter in a five set excursion 11-5, 9-11, 12-10, 10-12 and 11-4.
The second fixture at this zone witnessed John Phang defeating Zachary Persaud 14 – 12, 11 – 7, 11 – 6. Fixtures in Category-E saw Madison Fernandes wining against Nathan Rahaman 11 – 2, 11 – 4 while Rajiv Lee defeated Daniel Lowe 11-7, 11-7 in the second matchup in this division.
In the final category, Nechemiyah Levans brushed aside for both Aliyah and Alexander Persaud in straight sets in their respective Category-F fixtures. He swept aside Alexander 11 – 3, 11 – 1 while disposing of Aliyah by an 11 – 1, 11 – 3.
The other match contested in this category was between Kirsten Gomes and Paige Fernandes. Gomes prevailed in straight sets by an 11 – 5, 11 – 6 score.
The final set of matches in the event will be contested today at the same venue from 11:00am. Immediately following the conclusion of the event, the presentation of prizes will commence.
