A 33-year-old miner died on Saturday afternoon after a mining pit collapsed at Warrenbu, North West District.
Seckou Adams of Old Road, Den Amstel, a former Disc Jockey, worked at the Warrenbu mining location as a miner for five years and would have celebrated his 34th birthday yesterday, according to his mother, Olive Adams. Adams said that the incident happened around 4:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
The body is at the Port Kaituma Hospital Mortuary awaiting a Post-Mortem Examination as the investigations continue.
Mrs Adams added that her son had only travelled back into the interior two weeks ago after being out for a month. She said that he had travelled out of the interior to host the annual banquet and dance at the Den Amstel community centre ground, earlier on in November.
He was described as a kind and loving man who took care of others. He leaves his mother and other relatives to mourn.
Dozens of miners have died in recent years following pit collapses.
